“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
Men are often taught to push through, to carry the load and never show weakness. But even the strongest leaders get tired. Elijah, fresh from a mighty victory on Mount Carmel, sat under a juniper tree and asked God to take his life (1 Kings 19:4). God’s response was not a rebuke. It was food, sleep and a gentle whisper.
The rest Jesus gives
The rest Jesus offers goes deeper than a day off. It is rest for the soul: freedom from striving to earn God’s love, from carrying burdens He never asked you to carry, and from the fear of what tomorrow holds.
Practical steps to rest
- Cast your cares. Name each worry in prayer and hand it to God (1 Peter 5:7).
- Keep a Sabbath rhythm. Set aside regular time to stop, worship and be refreshed.
- Be still. “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).
- Ask for help. Let trusted brothers carry some of the weight with you.
A rested warrior fights better. Accept the invitation today, and let Jesus restore your soul.
