A participant in the Hallelujah Challenge, Chike, has shared an emotional testimony of how he lost his father on the third day of the 2017 edition of the worship challenge and how continuing to worship God helped him navigate the painful season.
Recounting the experience, Chike explained that his father’s death came just as the challenge had begun. Although he acknowledged that losing someone you love naturally comes with a period of mourning, he eventually decided to continue participating. “I joined Hallelujah Challenge at 2017, and on the third of the challenge, I lost my dad. I’d lost my dad,” he said.
He recalled that the loss brought questions and difficult emotions, particularly as he tried to understand why it had happened.
“I Had Questions for God, But I Just Started Worshipping”
Chike explained that he had moments when he wanted to ask God why he had allowed such a painful experience, but he continued worshipping throughout the challenge.
“To the glory of God, I just continued with the challenge,” he said. According to him, participating in the challenge helped him remain emotionally steady during a period when many thoughts could have overwhelmed him.
“As the challenge came down that period, it helped me, because it also helped me to stay sane, because you know a lot of things come into your mind. So I thank God for that,” he recounted. He added that God helped him through the season and expressed gratitude for how far he had come.
“Each Time I Take the Dance Challenge, It’s a Retreat for Myself”
Beyond the public perception of the dance challenge, Chike explained that it has become a personal time of worship and retreat for him. He said people often ask him how he dances and request that he teach them, but his focus is not on the dance itself or how people perceive his performance.
“When I’m dancing, I don’t think about what I’m dancing, because I know the worship is to God. So once I come there, I worship God. Each time I take the challenge, it’s a retreat for myself,” he explained. He further disclosed that the period involves fasting and prayer, giving him time to focus on God, worship and attend to personal matters in his walk with Him.
For Chike, the challenge is therefore much more than a public display of dancing. It is an opportunity to withdraw from distractions and spend intentional time in God’s presence.
“Today She’s a Mother of Three Boys”
Chike also shared a testimony involving his elder sister, who had experienced several miscarriages and struggled with barrenness.
He recalled how deeply the situation affected him, explaining that he cried and prayed to God concerning her. He noted that although people should not approach worship merely as a means of obtaining miracles, he believes God can also demonstrate His glory through answered prayers. According to him, God eventually answered their prayers, and his sister is now a mother of three boys.
His Family Members Gave Their Lives to Christ
Another testimony Chike shared was the decision of some of his older family members to give their lives to Christ.
He explained that seeing what God was doing through his life during the dance challenge influenced them to intentionally embrace Christianity. He said this was another reason he remained grateful for the impact of the worship experience beyond the visible testimonies. Encouraging others, Chike urged people not to focus only on the miracles, testimonies or outward appearance associated with the challenge.
He stressed that the most important thing is making time to focus on God. “It’s beyond the testimonies, beyond our dressing, like miracles. Just find a time to focus on God,” he said.
