We live in the most connected generation in history, yet many believers feel spiritually empty. Our feeds are full, but our souls are starving. The problem is rarely that God is far away. More often, our appetite has been dulled by everything else.
You hunger for what you feed on
Jesus said, “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled” (Matthew 5:6). Hunger for God grows the same way physical appetite does: the more you taste, the more you want. The less you taste, the less you notice you are missing anything.
Five ways to stir your appetite
- Give God your first minutes. Before the phone, open the Word.
- Fast from noise. Take one day a week with less social media and more silence.
- Read slowly. One chapter meditated on beats five chapters skimmed.
- Fill your ears with truth. Choose worship and sermons that point you to Christ.
- Pray honestly. Tell God, “I am not hungry, but I want to be.” He answers that prayer.
A hungry man is a dangerous man
History’s revivals were led by people desperate for God. When a man’s hunger for God outweighs his hunger for comfort, he becomes unstoppable in the hands of the Holy Spirit. Let that hunger begin again today.
