Buchi Breaks Silence on Leaving Christ Embassy, Reveals What Changed

Veteran Nigerian gospel reggae minister Buchi has opened up about his departure from Christ Embassy, revealing that changes to the ministry’s order of worship meant reggae music was no longer permitted. Addressing questions about whether he was still part of Christ Embassy and what led to his departure, Buchi was quick to clarify that his decision to move on was not the result of a disagreement, personal conflict or falling out with the ministry. “There was no strife,” he explained, stressing that leaving a particular congregation does not necessarily mean there has been a problem with its leadership.

Buchi Says He Still Holds Pastor Chris Oyakhilome in High Regard

Despite no longer worshipping or serving within Christ Embassy, Buchi expressed deep respect for its founder, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, acknowledging the significant role the pastor played in his Christian journey. He described Pastor Chris as the angel of the house and recalled that he was the person who personally led him to Christ. “The angel of the house, the pastor, who is still our pastor… you can’t deny the role that he has played in our lives and in our upbringing,” Buchi said.

He also pointed to other gospel ministers, including Ada, Moses Bliss, Samsong and Frank Edwards, who passed through the ministry but now worship or serve in different congregations. According to Buchi, their movement to other churches should not be interpreted as a sign of conflict or a loss of respect for the ministry that helped shape their Christian lives. “Every movement does not have to be a sign or a result of strife. There is no strife in it,” he stated.

“The New Order No Longer Allowed Reggae Music”

Explaining the specific reason behind his departure, Buchi said there came a time when the order of worship within Christ Embassy changed. He explained that the new arrangement no longer permitted reggae music in the church, a development that affected his own musical expression and ministry. As a gospel reggae minister, the change was significant to the way he had been serving through music. However, Buchi indicated that his understanding of his assignment had already begun to extend beyond the traditional church environment even before the change in worship order.

“I Didn’t Send You to Sing to the People in Church”

Buchi revealed that he believed God had impressed a specific instruction on his heart concerning the reach and purpose of his music ministry. “I didn’t send you to the church. I didn’t send you to preach to the people in church. I didn’t send you to sing to the people in church,” he recalled. He explained that he understood this as a call to take the gospel beyond conventional church settings and reach people who might not ordinarily attend church. According to him, while Christians naturally connect with his songs because of their scriptural foundation, his assignment also involves reaching people outside the church.

His explanation suggests that his transition was not simply about changing congregations but about following what he understood to be a wider evangelistic direction for his music.

Buchi: Leaving a Church Does Not Mean There Was a Fight

Buchi’s comments offer an explanation of his journey away from Christ Embassy while making it clear that he does not regard the transition as a rejection of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome or the ministry. He maintained that he remains grateful for the spiritual foundation he received and continues to recognise Pastor Chris’ influence in his life. For the veteran gospel reggae minister, moving on was connected to changes in worship order and his understanding of his assignment to reach people beyond the church. “There is no strife in it,” he reiterated.
